THE WORK SPEAKs

This is a sample of my work from various publications, including La Cuadra, the literary and cultural magazine I ran for a decade before falling gravely ill in 2015. Before picking up the pen professionally in 2005, I had a number of jobs. I taught history at a public high school in Brooklyn; I was a bartender, a storyteller, a project manager, and — for a short period of time — a mezcal smuggler. Those pursuits, along with the extracurricular adventures those years allowed, provided fertile ground for when I finally decided to start essaying for fun. Here are a few of those pieces. Some of them might fit into a second memoir down the road, but let’s get Incompatible With Life into the world first.
